I was walking to the bus terminal the other day and I was looking at the train station that's right there. I had the biggest urge to jump on a train and fuck off for a little while. I couldn't shake that feeling even when I was on the bus almost at work I literally thought about just staying on that bus and seeing where it takes me and go from there. But of course, money rules my life so I got off the bus and went to work.
Last night I had the same feeling and it wasn't even a work day. So I Googled "via rail" just to see where the trains go and of course, how much it would cost. I watched a short video on the train ride from Toronto to Vancouver - wow. Looks so absolutely beautiful. It takes a few days to get there by a train so you would have to sleep on the train a few nights so I wouldn't want the cheapest seats because you would have to sleep in the seat. Something I wouldn't want to do for more than 1 night so I looked at how much it would cost to travel there with somewhere to sleep. Depending on how comfortable and private you want things to be, for 2 people there and back costs anywhere between $8,000 something and around $19,000 something. That doesn't include somewhere to stay once you get there and anything else you would have to buy. The view is amazing and I'm sure it's something you would remember forever but you could take a plane there for less than half the money and half the time and have more money to do things once you're there. Even a train from me to somewhere 2 hours away was almost $60. That's so ridiculous in my opinion.
Maybe I'll slowly save my money and take a little trip somewhere spontaneously and it'll be a lifetime experience for me but for now I'll just dream about it...
Do you know any cheaper options for traveling within Canada? I want the journey to be just as much fun as being somewhere different for a little while. I live the same life every single day I just need a break from work and the same walls and what not even if it's just for a few days. Why work most of the time just to pay bills to live. Why not spend a little bit of that money and go on an adventure somewhere? I'm craving it.
