Hey! Sorry I've been MIA - I've been so sick with a cold type sickness it really sucks it's slowly going away though. Anyway, I don't think I've mentioned this before but I'm currently working at A&W and have been for a few years so I know quite a lot about the restaurant. I'm always wanting to help out customers but my job is to be nice to the "guests" while making a good profit for the business. Here's some hacks for your next A&W visit whether in the near future or in the distant future:
- The veggie burger is not vegan (it contains egg whites in the patty that we can not remove) but it's delicious it's actually my favourite burger I like it more than the beef burgers.
- The 5oz cheddar bacon uncle burger is my next favourite burger but always ask for it to be fresh because it's expensive and not a lot of people buy it so the patty sits in the cvap holder for over an hour. If you don't want bacon ask for the uncle burger with cheddar added, if you don't want cheddar but you want bacon ask for an uncle burger with bacon added if you see they typed in "cheddar bacon under with no cheese/bacon correct them because you'll be paying more that way
- The beef buddy burgers contain the most delicious grilled onions ever but the onions are really bad for you. We cut up onions then add a package or two of this lard beef flavour stuff. So try not to buy buddy burgers all the time because they're so cheap unless you want to get fat over time.
- Always ask what the specials are and then ask if that's all the specials they have or if they have any 2 burgers for whatever price because sometimes we have 2 burgers for $6.
- If the teen burger is on sale don't buy the mama burger because it's literally the same burger except the teen burger also comes with cheese, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. You can order the burger without that stuff if you'd like. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who don't take the advice because they don't understand what I'm saying and they're paying about $2 more than they should be.
- The best limited time burgers are the peppered bacon burgers, sriracha burgers, and the maple chipotle burgers. The other ones I don't really like all that much actually the other ones are really disgusting in my opinion.
- Ask for you meats to be fresh. Even though we secretly hate people that ask that and we will probably park you if you come through the drive thru, it's better if you do. Also, always ask for the stuff to be well done. The thing that goes on top of the meat to cook it for a certain amount of time usually comes up and you can see a bit of blood on top of the patties and the chicken is always held in trays for a while so by the time you get to eat it it's somewhat soggy and kind of cold.
- When going through the drive thru try to order only a little bit like 1 burger or 1 combo. If you order a lot your stuff will be made really really quickly and won't be all that good compared to if you came inside during an off time where there's no lineups and they can focus more on making your food perfectly. Ask for fresh fries too because they get cold really quickly even in the thing that has a heater.
- The onion rings are hand made and taste really friggin good. During the summer though, if you see a lot of flies around the restaurant and it bugs you I wouldn't buy them because flies tend to love the batter and they land in it and what not it's gross in my opinion but I mean I'm a really clean person. I won't even buy donuts from Tim Hortons during the summer because I always see flies on the donuts - yuck!
- If you're buying a burger and fries just get the drink. We hate telling people it's only 25 cents (at my restaurant I don't know about the others but I'm sure at all of them they're at least less than a dollar more) to add a drink to make it a combo. You don't have to buy pop ask what they have. The restaurant I work at also has apple and orange juice, bottled water, white and chocolate milk, coffee, tea, etc.
