Being sick at work

Hey! Was MIA again sorry... Been working tons I'm surprised I'm getting all these hours but I kind of like it considering Christmas is coming up soon! Anyway, I'm gonna be talking about working while being sick tonight because most of the time I'm guilty of going to work sick as hell and lately everybody at my work has been sick with something or other.

First of all, we're not suppose to come in to work if we're sick. We have to do these online modules about the job and it even says not to come if ill. Things aren't that easy at my work though. The boss is most worried about not having somebody there to cover the shift and will even tell the person calling in sick to find someone to cover their shift or else they have to come in - sick or not. I don't think that's right but I mean I see where he's coming from he's trying to run a business but I mean at the same time he keeps hiring people who are in school constantly or they can only work so many hours per week etc. He doesn't hire people who are more available but it's up to him who he hires.

It's not easy to call in sick even if you're actually sick. I don't ever call in sick if I'm not sick I think I might have a handful of times but I'm such a horrible liar and on top of it if I lie to someone telling them I'm sick, guess what? I start actually feeling sick. So I always just go to work lol.

A doctors note is almost always required before coming back to work and I don't know about you but missing a day of work is also missing a day of pay so I really hate to pay for a doctors note on top of it. Where I go it's $14 for a note that has no detail it literally just says something like "was unable to work due to medical reasons" and it's the getting there and waiting part that sucks too. Sometimes you wish you didn't have a job and could sit in your pjs, watch tv, and be catered to like when you were little. Those were the days!

Most of us go to work sick it's easier just to feel deathly ill than to attempt to call in that shift. We handle food with no gloves. Our hands are clean yes but we're working with the public's food while sick. It's better just to eat at home honestly what goes on behind the scenes in the food industry is fucking repulsive and unless you work there and make your own food I wouldn't trust it 100%.

For instance, people at my work have witnessed my boss, myself included, rinse meat off with water after it has fallen on the floor cook it and serve it. I'm not even kidding. I always told myself and family that if they ever ever ever fire me I will get them closed down so quickly they won't even know what hit them. For now, it's where I go to earn money so I can survive on my own so I need it to stay open. I personally treat the food how I would do it myself at home and sometimes I get yelled at for tiny things but that's how I'm gonna do it because that's how I treat my food at home and not gonna lie I'm a damn good cook!

You may be thinking I'm full of crap but I'm not. This is what happens behind the scenes at any food joint. I'm sure you know people who work with food just ask them. Just because the restaurant has a "pass" sign on the door from health and safety people that really doesn't mean anything. Those people are extremely thorough sure but when I step foot in to work my boss will whisper to me that they're there and we work a lot differently than if they weren't there. They'll turn their back for 1 minute and the boss will have someone clean something mad quick so they don't get a bad mark. That's just how it is.

So, if it's flu season I highly suggest not eating out. Chances are you will get sick with something and have no idea where you got it from.

McDonald's Monopoly

Have you or someone you know won anything big from this? I've been playing it for the past few years and the most I've won is a walmart gift card worth I think it was $20 or $25, a snapfish thing to get like 5 free picture prints, and free food.

I have a ton of extra stickers if anybody wants them if you need one more and I have it I'll take like $20 for it lol. I feel as if there's a ton of the same stickers and like 1 of the ones everybody needs. Just shoot me a comment on here if you need one and I'll let you know if I have it or not. I'd write them all down but I don't have enough time because I have to get ready for work. I need one more for each I think and now when we get food we're getting stickers we already have...

Working with OCD

First things first I need to set something straight, OCD isn't all compulsively washing your hands every few minutes like a lot of people seem to think. There's a lot of different types of OCD and hoarding is even one of them.
I have 2 different types of OCD and that is checking and numbers. I also deal with the organizing type but it's not so "there" like the other two are.
Checking OCD is practically just checking to make sure things are done over and over and over again. For example, before leaving my house I go to each room several times to make sure all the lights are out, there's no candles burning, there's nothing plugged in that I think could cause a fire, the oven is off and no elements are on, the fridge and freezer doors are completely shut I'll push on the doors a few times just to make sure some days when my OCD is bad I'll open and close the doors to make sure nothing fell that could open the doors after I leave, the TV is off, etc. Some days I run really late for work because of it. It's normal to check these things once or twice but I do it a lot. I will even leave my house and come back just to check these things again. Days where I'm running late because of it, I won't turn around to check again and I'll get really bad anxiety until I know my boyfriend is home and everything is ok.
Numbers OCD is really bad for me. I get really fixated on a certain number and I have to do things with that number or I notice that number a lot more and talk about it for awhile until that person gets annoyed. You might have noticed that my second post to this blog was called "333" that is my main number I'm always seeing. I notice it EVERYWHERE. On license plates (even in the movie "Ponyo"), sides of cabs, phone numbers, prices at grocery stores, clocks, etc. I'm usually with Nick so I always bring it up to him. I think he gets annoyed with it but when I see it I feel as if I HAVE to say something about it, I HAVE to give it recognition. I've been dealing with this number since 2008 and no matter what I do I can't not see it. It really drives me crazy to the point where I google it and read the same articles over and over again on how it's an angel giving you signs and what not. I mean, it could be I guess, I like to think that anyway. It haunts me though for sure. My other numbers are 3 (in general but I usually connect it with 333), 4, 7 , 13, and 14. I usually do things in 4's. Whether it's checking things or whatever I'm doing. I have a lock at work for my locker and I grab the top and bottom of it and squish it together to make sure it's locked. I press it together 14 times and I repeat that step 4 times. 7 I find very lucky and when I see a 7 or do things in 7's I feel happy like it's my lucky day or something. 13 isn't so lucky for me, I always have something bad happen to me on Friday the 13th's whether it's a death or something small like my favourite pants rip or something. I always give these numbers major recognition to the point where it drives myself crazy. I've tried to just walk away from it but I feel as if I HAVE to do it no matter what it is even if it makes me late for work I don't care.
OCD is nothing to laugh about even though I'm guilty of it myself, hell, I joke about it sometimes I'll say to somebody "holy fuck you're so OCD!" but in reality it's actually a pretty horrible thing to deal with.
Working with OCD is practically the same as being a regular person at work. The only difference is that it takes me an extra few minutes to actually get to work from my locker, when I'm working and I see something that needs to do "fixed" aka moved slightly so it makes my mind more comfortable, counting the tills to end the shift takes me a little longer because sometimes I'll be counting the coins and I'll say one of my numbers in my head then I have to recount because my mind wanders a little with the number in mind, changing the mop water in the mop room takes me an extra minute because I have to tell myself a few times that the light is off, the water is off, and the door is closed. There's some other things too but in general, working with OCD is the same as working without it except you spend a few extra minutes each shift doing OCD type things. It's not all that noticeable to other people but dealing with it I can tell.
I tried yoga the other night because apparently exercise helps with OCD and it did for the next day I wasn't feeling so anxious when I left the house for work which was a big deal because my OCD that week was really really bad. Some days it's worse than others but it's always a little bit there. It's not for me though at all, I really suck at yoga. I'm sure it gets easier but I'm going to find something else to do that's a little easier. Downward dog then walking my feet up to my hands was crazy hard lol.
I was thinking about using the voice memo on my phone to record myself telling myself that my check things are done that way when I'm on my way to work or I'm at work I can turn it on and listen to it but I always forget to do it but it's probably a really good idea if I started it and turned it in to one of my routines.
One little story before I post this, make 1 more quick post so I have more than 13 posts, then get ready for work.... About a month ago I had just got to work for an 8 hour shift. Worrying about germs isn't really my thing but this guy came in with his little boy and the second I seen the kids face I backed away a little bit. His eyes were full of puss it looked like and his nose was running and crusty at the same time and he had his mouth open like "uhhhhhh I'm so sick" this kid should've been home eating soup not at A&W with his dad eating hamburgers. Made me sick like how can you take your child out when they're that ill?! Well, for some reason that experience really set off some sort of OCD that's deep within myself and the second I gave him his change I told the other girls to take the rest of the orders. I practically ran to the back sink got paper towel and picked my nose with it until I felt like there was no sickness germs in there then I washed my hands, then washed my face, then washed my hands again. Even after doing that I felt like the kids sickness was on my uniform and I still had 7 hours of work left. I kept washing my hands and face almost the whole time I was there I could not shake the feeling that I was gonna get sick with what that kid had. I wanted to go home and shower and wash my uniform in hot water instead of cold. So please please please don't go in public if you're sick or your kid is sick because that's how things spread and there's people like me who will freak out the rest of the day because of it.

Surviving 8 hour shifts

I usually work 5 hour shifts at my job but lately I've been getting at least 1 or 2 shifts that are 8 hours long. It doesn't seem like such a big deal since almost everybody who has a job works that many hours if not more but when you're so used to working 5 hours that extra 3 hours seem to linger a really long time.

Waking up on the day of my 8 hour shift I have uncontrollable feelings of worry and nervousness. For some reason I feel as if I'll never be able to get through that 8 hours at work and I'll get fired because I'll just up and leave if I'm not allowed to go home. I used to get physically sick during 8 hour shifts and beg to go home I don't understand it but I think it has to do with the types of OCD I have which I will cover in another post...

One Friday evening Nick called me freaking out because he thought I had somebody over because our new apartment looked trashed so I instantly lost my shit because I knew that somebody must have broke in to our apartment while we were both at work. I started to get bad anxiety and begged to leave my boss wouldn't allow it because I always go home early on Fridays. I wanted to quit so badly because I was extremely worried, mostly about my belongings. I have a really weird attachment to everything I own you can practically call me a hoarder. I hoard things but I'm not disgusting like how you see people on that tv show. I didn't end up quitting obviously but I mean if that were to happen now that we've been here a few months I most certainly would because before I was also worried about how much things cost to live because I had no idea and now that I have an idea I wouldn't be so worried about money if I were to just up and quit.

Anyway, surviving 8 hour shifts can be tough especially in fast food but I have a few tips to help you get through it if you're used to working less hours and 8 hours seems too stressful...

1. Switch up your routine

If you go to work every day and do the same things every time you'll find that time goes a lot slower once you get past that time where you would usually look at the clock and be happy you're leaving in less than an hour. In my 5 hour shifts I always do the same things so by the time I'm done all those things I can stand around for 20-30 minutes then go home. When I do that on an 8 hour shift I find those last 3 hours absolutely kill me. I feel insanely bored. So my number 1 tip to you is to do things that you usually don't ever do - those things pass a lot of time!

2. Take short breaks

At my work we can go for our break whenever we want. We get either one 30 minute break or two 15 minute breaks. Me, because I smoke I take the two 15 minute breaks. It's also better to take short breaks because you don't get too comfortable and lazy doing whatever you're doing. If you smoke you can quickly run outside, smoke 2 cigarettes, and run back inside in exactly 15 minutes. That means that if you don't smoke and you usually eat like most people do on breaks that's more than enough time to eat a meal and not be so wound down that you're too tired feeling to work again. Also, take advantage of bathroom breaks. I mean, don't go to the bathroom every 30 minutes but in an 8 hour shift it's more than acceptable to go 3 or 4 times for 5 minutes (4 times at 5 minutes each is 20 minutes of getting paid to go to the bathroom!)

3. Don't talk a lot

You would think that having conversations at work would pass your time but in reality you're more likely to look at the clock whenever the conversation gets boring or you'll look at the clock because you're nervous that the boss will give you shit for talking for so long so you try to make the conversation quick or you look at the clock right after the conversation and realize you were only talking for a few minutes. My advice to you is to get lost in your own thoughts or sing some songs even if it's just in your head because I find that makes my time go by really fast.

4. Take time to sit down

When you're on your feet all day and dealing with the public it really puts a strain on your body. Take a few minutes to sit down even if it's not on your break. At my work there's a walk in fridge and right inside the door there's a little wall beside a shelf where no cameras can see so I always sit on the floor there then get up when I feel like I'm getting too lazy. It gives me a second wind every time - plus it's cold so that helps a lot too.

5. Keep in mind it gets easier

The more 8 hour shifts you do the faster it goes by. Instead of avoiding 8 hour shifts try asking your boss for more. Not only is it more money but it's good experience to work that long for when you apply to a "real" job where you have to work 8 hours or more every day.

Cigarette cravings at work

As you may know, I smoke. Having cravings during a shift really sucks. I once was working 2 jobs and my other job allowed me to go out whenever I wanted and I got awesome tips and I worked all by myself, ugh it was amazing and I screwed it up and found myself fired right before the probation period was over because I called in sick on new years eve. I actually was sick but that's not the point I should have went and kept that job because it was way better than the one I've been at for almost 3 years.

I have to calculate when I should go for my break and instead of eating I sit outside smoking 2 cigarettes because 1 doesn't cut it after it's all you've been thinking about for at least an hour. I go for my break after 2-3 hours of being at work and I take 15 minute breaks instead of 30 minutes. I also volunteer to throw the garbage every night because that allows me to sneak in 1 quick one.

When I'm at home I hardly ever want a cigarette but at work it's all I want. I don't know if it's the crappy customers that come in, the fact that I'm bored from doing the same things every single day, or what it is but if I didn't work I would definitely try to quit I think it would be easier. Of course if I wasn't working I'd also be broke and wouldn't be able to afford them lol.

If you smoke and are having a hard time waiting for your breaks at work the one thing I can suggest to you is to chew gum. I chew Excel because the strong minty flavors really subsides the cravings and when the flavour runs out and you want to spit it out and go outside for a smoke just spit it out and put a next piece in your mouth. I also tried the cheapish vapor cigarettes you can buy at gas stations or convenience stores for like $14 and every time I REALLY felt like a smoke I went to the washroom and took a few puffs or I went to change the mop water that's in a tiny closet like room where it's private. It helped a lot but I had a hard time keeping it in my small pocket without anyone seeing it so I just gave up on that.

I plan on quitting soon but maybe not today.

Using public washrooms at work

A bathroom is a bathroom no doubt about it; it sure beats pissing your pants lol! We have to use the bathroom that the public gets to use as well. I work in a restaurant that is inside of a gas station.

When you think of gas station bathrooms you probably think of that most disgusting thing you have ever never seen and want a vomit and it's pretty much exactly like that.

We are required to check and clean the bathrooms every day even though it's technically the gas station workers duty. I refuse to do it because I have a very weak stomach even though I've cleaned up vomit and have changed many many diapers. I can not deal with washrooms. Even cleaning my own toilet at home I have a put my hair right up and I put my shirt half way up my face and gag until my eyes are watering while I'm cleaning it. No way in hell will I clean a public bathroom, nope.

ANYWAY......

A few months ago I was about 20 minutes from leaving for the day and I have quite a distance to travel home it's sometimes around 40 minutes with traffic other than that it's about 20-25 minutes to get home. I have a baby bladder when I have to go I have to go right away. So I walked in the bathroom and instantly smelled shit. Like thick sticky diarrhea shit. I gagged and looked in the big bathroom quickly, nothing. Looked in the small stall didn't see anything then I opened the big stall door again then noticed that someone wiped their ass on the toilet paper that was hanging on the roll and left it there. There was also shit on the wall, floor, etc. I don't know how I missed that the first time I looked but I think I was just looking in the toilet thinking that someone didn't flush.

By the way, who shits in a public washroom?! Seriously. I can understand if you are about to have explosive diarrhea and have to use a public washroom but almost every day I go in the public washroom it smells like shit. WHY?! STOP PLEASE!!! Go home to take fat logs because people who are already miserable from being at work don't want to use the bathroom when it's absolutely disgusting especially when that's the one place we can go to escape for a few minutes.

So if you're job hunting right now, any job is money but if you want to be a little bit picky I highly suggest looking for a job that has employee washrooms. If you have to use a public washroom at work, I understand the struggle...

Garbage Everywhere

This is a photo that I secretly took at work one day a really long time ago. It looks dreadful and to be honest it really is but taking out all that garbage is practically another break for me. I take my time with it and have a smoke while I'm throwing it in the bins and enjoy the sun set - I always try to take it around that time. So if you ever see a fast food worker taking garbage off a table you eat at and they look miserable and maybe even sighing and swearing under their breathe it's because they deal with so much garbage in one day and if they're living on their own like me they're dealing with garbage at home too (my boyfriend takes out the garbage but I'm always throwing things in the bin). Please please please put your garbage in the garbage when you're done eating and those paper tray liners - throw those out too because we don't reuse them they're a one time use thing. If you're in the drive thru don't throw all your garbage out your window - we do see you and we do have to clean that up and we will remember your face and be completely rude to you the next time we see you. Thank you.

Miscellaneous Monday

I was walking to the bus terminal the other day and I was looking at the train station that's right there. I had the biggest urge to jump on a train and fuck off for a little while. I couldn't shake that feeling even when I was on the bus almost at work I literally thought about just staying on that bus and seeing where it takes me and go from there. But of course, money rules my life so I got off the bus and went to work.

Last night I had the same feeling and it wasn't even a work day. So I Googled "via rail" just to see where the trains go and of course, how much it would cost. I watched a short video on the train ride from Toronto to Vancouver - wow. Looks so absolutely beautiful. It takes a few days to get there by a train so you would have to sleep on the train a few nights so I wouldn't want the cheapest seats because you would have to sleep in the seat. Something I wouldn't want to do for more than 1 night so I looked at how much it would cost to travel there with somewhere to sleep. Depending on how comfortable and private you want things to be, for 2 people there and back costs anywhere between $8,000 something and around $19,000 something. That doesn't include somewhere to stay once you get there and anything else you would have to buy. The view is amazing and I'm sure it's something you would remember forever but you could take a plane there for less than half the money and half the time and have more money to do things once you're there. Even a train from me to somewhere 2 hours away was almost $60. That's so ridiculous in my opinion.

Maybe I'll slowly save my money and take a little trip somewhere spontaneously and it'll be a lifetime experience for me but for now I'll just dream about it...

Do you know any cheaper options for traveling within Canada? I want the journey to be just as much fun as being somewhere different for a little while. I live the same life every single day I just need a break from work and the same walls and what not even if it's just for a few days. Why work most of the time just to pay bills to live. Why not spend a little bit of that money and go on an adventure somewhere? I'm craving it.

My nails are not your business

Good afternoon!

So, on Friday my female boss (I have 2 bosses they're married and are running the restaurant together) told me I have to cut my nails. First of all, I have really good genes when it comes to my nails they are hard as rocks and grow quickly and nicely. I keep them extremely clean and filed if they need it but my nails always grow like how a french manicure grows. I always get compliments on how nice they are. So anyway, I actually freaked out on her a little bit. I don't like to be told what to do to begin with but when it comes to something that has to do with my personal hygiene - that really grinds my gears! I refuse to cut my nice nails unless I want to especially for some fast food job. I know that in the paper work when I first started it said you can't have painted nails or fake nails and I've complied with those rules I've painted my nails I think once in the past 3 years and it was for a wedding on a day I wasn't working and I took it off before work.

Guess what happened Saturday morning? I was cleaning the crap out of my house and one of my nails broke half way across right at the bottom. That hardly ever happens because my nails are so good but for some reason my hard a nails nail broke. I had to cut them all because I don't want one short nail that's just gross in my opinion. So I'm gonna go to work today and I really hope the female boss doesn't notice my nails because she's going to think I cut them because she told me to when that is not the case at all.

I've seen girls at my work with nail polish on and I've seen 2 girls with fake nails on. Did they get talked to? Did they have to go home to take it off? That's actually a food health and safety thing believe it or not because polish can flake off into the food and potentially make someone sick and fake nails can fall off and possibly injure someone or kill them if they choke on it or something. Real nails are not gonna do that. As far as I'm concerned my nails are nobody's business but my own.

Do you work somewhere with ridiculous rules that you can't stand? Comment! I know there must be tons of places - I applied to Starbucks one time and they make you agree in the application that you won't have an unnatural hair colour, no tattoos, piercings have to be very minimal I believe, etc. It's 2016 people!! Ugh.

Cursed cash

I'll never forget the time when a woman came through the drive thru and demanded a different bill than the one we were giving her back for her change. She claimed there was evil spirits living in the bill we were giving her. It was one of the older bills not the new plastic ones. She was legit terrified when she seen the bill. WTF?! So I googled around and I didn't find anything on other people believing this to be true as well so I'm guessing she was just crazy but people like that make my job so interesting. It's NEVER a dull moment when working with the public let me tell ya!

Do you know anyone who believes this as well? I want to know where this idea came from and if there could possibly be any truth to it because I am a huge believer of the paranormal and would love to hear any stories you have whether it be on cursed cash or just any paranormal experiences that happened to yourself or to someone you know.

Living on a budget

Good morning!

As you may know by now I'm living on my own now with my boyfriend of 3 years and I work as a fast food worker at A&W. What you might not know is that I only make on average $1,200 a month. I work 5 days a week Monday to Friday usually 5 hour shifts sometimes the odd 6-8 hour shift but usually around 28 hours a week. I almost died when I seen my last paycheck because it was $700 - more than the $600 ones I'm used to. When you're living away from your parents that extra $100 seems like a lot but in reality that pays for my half of internet or just a few groceries like what I ended up buying with that extra $100. Before we got our own place we agreed that everything would be split right down the middle because I hate when people fight over money because one person pays more than the other and what not. So, he makes a lot more money than me - like, about $7-$8 an hour more than me and he always works 8 hour shifts and lots of overtime. My work doesn't do that. You can take someones shift if they need you to but my boss won't allow it if that person will be working more than 40 hours in that week. Either way, I don't think it's fair for someone to pay more money on the same thing the other person is using just as much just because of however much money someone makes. It's my choice to be working this job because I couldn't finish high school and I don't apply to awesome jobs very often because they never call me. Anyway, my expenses have shown to be more than I can handle but I'm managing somehow; must be those government cheques or the fact that my dad helps me out a lot by giving me some cash almost every single week. I smoke cigarettes too which doesn't help. Smoking alone costs about $160-$200 per month give or take. Here's a list of my expenses:

Rent - $447.50 (that's my half)
Internet/cable/phone - $90 (we got a good deal on a package but we haven't cancelled the movie channels and I had to have the Dejaview channel so it's now $90 instead of $70 each)
Cell phone - $62.15 (give or take but for the most part this is what I pay every month for my crap iPhone)
Transportation - Nick picks me up after work every day which is really convenient for me so I usually give him like $40 a month or so for gas and to get to work I take the bus so that's $2.90 each time. So $2.90  X 5 days a week X 4 weeks in a month that's around $58 so let's just round it up to $100 a month on transportation. Still better than having a car in my opinion.
Food - We eat out a lot like almost every single day and spend around $20 each time. Well, I'm probably over exaggerating. Maybe 3 times a week so that's about $240 a month on fast food and for groceries we spend around $300 a month and that's buying like steaks lol. So my half of that is about $270
Miscellaneous - $40 a month if that. (razors which is haven't had to buy yet because I moved out with a few packages, deodorant, toilet paper, paper towel, laundry soap, dish soap, cleaning products, etc.)

Total = 1,009.65

Oh, wait, I almost forgot. I smoke. I'd be saving almost $200 a month if I didn't smoke so I literally spend every single dollar I earn on living out of my parents house. So where's the extra money going that's given to me? Sometimes I splurge and take a cab down to the bus terminal which costs $7 but mostly, I buy food with it. We have quite a bit of food in the house but when we have a ton we eat a ton. I also have a pretty bad problem with gambling. It all started when I went to the casino for my birthday one year and won $3,000 off $40. The max bet was $10 so I spun it 3 times and realized I had $10 left so I put my bet down to $3 and the first spin the bells went off and people started swarming my personal space in curiosity of how much I had just won. So, I'm pretty much trying to get that amazing feeling back to me but even when I win over $1,000 it makes me really friggin happy but I want to win more than $3,000. So I play slots online and win some and lose some, sometimes I play pro-line or lotto max, and now I'm buying lots of McDonalds trying to win something from that Monopoly thing they have going on right now. Roll up the rim is another bad time of year for me - I get really shaky from all the caffeine I have lol.

So if you're thinking about living on your own working a fast food job or any minimum wage job I would reconsider. I'm making a little more than minimum wage and have somebody to split all the bills with. I'm having the time of my life don't get me wrong but when it comes down to it I wouldn't recommend it to the average person because if you go out with your friends all the time say, to a bar, you can pretty much forget about that you'll want to drink at home because it's cheaper and don't think you'll be able to have friends over and get all drunk and loud because you know what's gonna happen? You're gonna hear from your landlord. If you want to save your money and go on a vacation, you can forget about that for at least a few years. Want a hair cut maybe some foils or something? LOL you'll realize you'd rather have milk for your cereal every day and a case of beer for the weekend to relax you from the craziness of the work week. Sure, you probably don't gamble or smoke and could MAYBE afford those things but if you're smart you'd throw that extra money in a high interest savings account and pray to god you'll be able to afford a house one day because living under someone in a basement isn't really ideal especially when you grew up in a house. I want a house one day in the next 5 years or so but I literally don't have the money to save to get a down payment on a house. Sure, I could give up gambling and smoking I could save around $200 a month and with whatever money I get save that too that's another few hundred dollars but at the end of the day those things keep me sane and even if I saved that - it wouldn't be enough to get a house in 5 years. Maybe a decent condo but not my dream house. When I get a house I want it to be absolutely perfect - something that I will live in for at least 25-30 years before downsizing.

Anyway, think about what I said and if you're going through the struggles of living too - I'm proud of you for doing it! Hell, I'm proud of myself.

Sauteed and Grilled

A really funny thing happened I think it was last week. This guy came through the drive thru and ordered the buddy burger with sauteed onions (the buddy burger already comes with grilled onions) so he came back through and opened his almost finished burger and said something along the line of "you call these sauteed onions?!" so I said something like "sir, those are grilled onions they're the same thing as sauteed onions" so he went on to say that he's gonna send head office "on my ass" I haven't heard anything so I'm thinking he either didn't contact head office because he realized he's an idiot or head office just laughed at him like we did.

I really have to get ready for work now lol.

A&W tips and tricks

Hey! Sorry I've been MIA - I've been so sick with a cold type sickness it really sucks it's slowly going away though. Anyway, I don't think I've mentioned this before but I'm currently working at A&W and have been for a few years so I know quite a lot about the restaurant. I'm always wanting to help out customers but my job is to be nice to the "guests" while making a good profit for the business. Here's some hacks for your next A&W visit whether in the near future or in the distant future:

- The veggie burger is not vegan (it contains egg whites in the patty that we can not remove) but it's delicious it's actually my favourite burger I like it more than the beef burgers.
- The 5oz cheddar bacon uncle burger is my next favourite burger but always ask for it to be fresh because it's expensive and not a lot of people buy it so the patty sits in the cvap holder for over an hour. If you don't want bacon ask for the uncle burger with cheddar added, if you don't want cheddar but you want bacon ask for an uncle burger with bacon added if you see they typed in "cheddar bacon under with no cheese/bacon correct them because you'll be paying more that way
- The beef buddy burgers contain the most delicious grilled onions ever but the onions are really bad for you. We cut up onions then add a package or two of this lard beef flavour stuff. So try not to buy buddy burgers all the time because they're so cheap unless you want to get fat over time.
- Always ask what the specials are and then ask if that's all the specials they have or if they have any 2 burgers for whatever price because sometimes we have 2 burgers for $6.
- If the teen burger is on sale don't buy the mama burger because it's literally the same burger except the teen burger also comes with cheese, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. You can order the burger without that stuff if you'd like. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who don't take the advice because they don't understand what I'm saying and they're paying about $2 more than they should be.
- The best limited time burgers are the peppered bacon burgers, sriracha burgers, and the maple chipotle burgers. The other ones I don't really like all that much actually the other ones are really disgusting in my opinion.
- Ask for you meats to be fresh. Even though we secretly hate people that ask that and we will probably park you if you come through the drive thru, it's better if you do. Also, always ask for the stuff to be well done. The thing that goes on top of the meat to cook it for a certain amount of time usually comes up and you can see a bit of blood on top of the patties and the chicken is always held in trays for a while so by the time you get to eat it it's somewhat soggy and kind of cold.
- When going through the drive thru try to order only a little bit like 1 burger or 1 combo. If you order a lot your stuff will be made really really quickly and won't be all that good compared to if you came inside during an off time where there's no lineups and they can focus more on making your food perfectly. Ask for fresh fries too because they get cold really quickly even in the thing that has a heater.
- The onion rings are hand made and taste really friggin good. During the summer though, if you see a lot of flies around the restaurant and it bugs you I wouldn't buy them because flies tend to love the batter and they land in it and what not it's gross in my opinion but I mean I'm a really clean person. I won't even buy donuts from Tim Hortons during the summer because I always see flies on the donuts - yuck!
- If you're buying a burger and fries just get the drink. We hate telling people it's only 25 cents (at my restaurant I don't know about the others but I'm sure at all of them they're at least less than a dollar more) to add a drink to make it a combo. You don't have to buy pop ask what they have. The restaurant I work at also has apple and orange juice, bottled water, white and chocolate milk, coffee, tea, etc.

I can't think of anything else right now but if I think of anything else I'll be sure to post it for you guys! Gotta get ready for work now have a good day!

3 3 3

333 is a number I'm ALWAYS seeing. I don't know why but I'm going to make a post that's somewhat fun containing 333.

So, what's the difference between working at the same fast food job for 3 days, or 3 months, or 3 years? EVERYTHING.

3 days - "yay I have a job I can't wait to get a pay cheque I'm gonna buy this and this and that! I'm soooooo happy!!!!" , "oh my I have no idea what I'm doing but I have to keep learning all this stuff and start doing it well so I can keep this job!!!"

3 months - "whew, I can breathe! They can't just fire me for no reason any more. I like my job it's not horrible it's not great but it's pretty nice having money but not all these customers are nice and I don't know if it's going to be worth it"

3 years - "I fucking hate this place so much I'm not doing that and if I don't what are they gonna do, fire me? So be it I could care less anyway" "I can't get fired I've put too much time in to this place if I get fired I probably shouldn't have it on my resume and I'm scared of change I don't know if I could handle a different job now and I have responsibilities. I can NOT get fired. I still hate this place though. I hate my life. The best part of my day is the walk out the doors to go home it's the best feeling especially on a Friday."

I want you to know that whatever your job is, I feel you. I know it's harder as the time goes on and you're probably not getting the raises and recognition you're deserving but you need to hang in there! Jobs are getting harder to get and as much as you might want to leave don't do it unless you find something else first and just know that all jobs come with some sort of bullshit and that's the truth.

Goodnight world.

Introduction

Hey!

Where to start... Well, for one my name is Courtney. That's the most basic thing in my life. I'm a fast food worker. Did I mention I'm 24 years old? Yup, working a teenager type job at my age. Lovely right? Some choices I've made in my teenage years led me to this job. I know, I know, it's my own fault I'm working some crappy job I could go back to school and get a career - a real job. Honestly, I'm fairly content with my life even my job. I'm a supervisor so I guess it's not too bad even though I don't really get treated like one. That's ok. I'm getting paid a little more than minimum wage and I'm working an average of 5 hours per day you'd think there's not much that happens while I'm at work but my job is right across the road from a motel full of prostitutes and drug addicts and I'm the only Caucasian (which isn't important but funny stories do come with the fact so it's best I tell you all these things now) This blog will be full of all sorts of emotional posts that will hopefully mostly make you laugh and there will be giveaways at some point - I'm planning on giving away at least a $20 gift card maybe once a month or a few times a year. I also want it to be on a more personal level so I plan on finding a way to making the requesting to win process not so privacy invading and combining it into a video where I draw a name or something and posting it as well as contacting the person via email to let them know they've won and get their address so I can mail them the gift card. I want the gift cards to be for fast food places and maybe I'll throw in a Walmart gift card once in awhile because there's almost always a McDonald's or something in Walmart so it still kind of goes with the theme of the blog it's just an idea for right now. To be completely honest I'm starting this blog with the hopes of making some extra money in the comfort of my own home. My rented home, sorry. Yeah, I'm renting my first apartment with my boyfriend, Nick, we just moved out a few months ago. It's going really good and money is alright not quite as easy as I thought it'd be but we're comfortable enough to live but not having the money to be planning a trip anywhere for at least a year lol. Overall, it's been awesome though I'm so happy. Anyway, the sooner I can start making money from this the sooner I can start doing giveaways and the more I make the higher priced the gift cards can be. I'm very very very giving which isn't always the greatest thing ever but it fills a void within myself that I love. If I'm making like, $40 a month the gift cards will be $20 that way I have $20 for myself but if I'm making say, $500 a month I'll definitely do a giveaway of at least $100 to somewhere or I'll give away 5 $20 ones so more people can enjoy the free stuff. I LOVE to get free stuff. I'm one of those people who are always on those free samples websites filling in request forms and getting overly excited when I get mail with a free pad sample. Lame, I know, but it's the little things in life that are the most important. I really want to do something for operation christmas child this year - if you haven't heard of it it's basically just filling a shoe box or a shoe box sized container with school supplies, toys, etc. for needy children in other countries. I think it's such a great cause I really want to get in to it but I obviously don't make enough money working in fast food to afford even $20 to buy stuff to send to complete strangers even though I would love to. Oh, and helping our northern neighbours. People far up north in Canada are paying a ridiculous amount of money for food. I would absolutely love to be able to send a box of food up to a family a few times a year. Hopefully this blog can generate enough money for me to do all the little things that I financially cant do right now. I'm aiming high but not getting my hopes up. We'll see what happens anyway.

I'd love to hear from my readers maybe tell me some funny stories you've had at your job or anything at all. Having a personal connection with my readers is my #1 priority I want to know people are reading not just passing through, you know? I'll start my first real post and get the blog looking a little nicer and let you know if and when those giveaways will be taking place soon!

I'm rambling so I'm going to stop here. Have a good night :)
